Fetus in bag left at store
BY DONALYN GUERRERO

A fetus, about five to six months old, placed in a paper bag was found by a security guard deposited at the baggage counter of a department store in Bacolod City, Wednesday.

Security guard Ronilo Esiderio, detailed at the baggage counter of the Gasiano Department Store at downtown Bacolod, yesterday told the DAILY STAR, an unidentified woman in her 20's deposited the paper bag at the counter at about 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Esiderio said he thought the paper bag contained fish because it started to smell on Wednesday night. He said he waited for the woman to claim the bag with the baggage tag No. 832, but she failed to return.

When he arrived at the baggage counter yesterday morning, Esiderio said he was met with a very foul odor that seemed to come from the paper bag. He asked for assistance from his fellow guards and they brought the bag to the parking area of the department store where they discovered the fetus.

The baby boy wrapped in eight plastic bags was in a shoebox covered by a striped cloth before it was placed in a paper bag, Esiderio said.

Security guard Milfred Buenafe, detailed at the parking area of the department store, said the baby boy has a few strands of hair and his umbilical cord had not yet been cut.

The aborted fetus was endorsed to the Bacolod City Health Office for proper disposition yesterday, PO2 Celito Dullan of Police Precinct 1 said.

Eli Cong, Bacolod City medico-legal officer, said the fetus that was in an advanced stage of decomposition was buried at the Handumanan public cemetery yesterday afternoon.*DMG
