BBC, Magnolia prevail to
forge do-or-die tiffs

With their backs against the wall, Wednesday night, BBC and Magnolia Nutri-oil managed to pull off contrasting wins to forge do-or-die scenarios in the the 6th Tan Kek Pin Cup semis at the Po Hang Gym in Bacolod City.

Boosted by the return of slotman Robert Buņol and coach Elvis Atinado, BBC brought down erstwhile unbeaten Talisay Basketball Athletic Club, 106-96, to stay in contention for a finals slot. Magnolia later set the stage for tonight's games do-or-die encounters, after routing New ST Marketing, 86-65. The four semifinalists hold identical 1-1 records.

Interestingly, Magnolia and BBC battle for the first championship slot at 6:30 p.m., before Talisay and New ST Marketing collide for the second finals berth.

COA moves on SP audit request

The Commission on Audit has requested the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod to provide it with certain documents pertaining to the P9 million fund given by the city to the Bacolod Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee.

This was due to request of the SP for an audit on the P9 million counterpart fund given by the city for the 23rd Southeast Asian Games in Bacolod City.

State Auditor Shiela Velmonte-Portal, in her letter to the SP dated March 1, requested for a copy of the memorandum of understanding between the Bacolod City government and the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee dated July 29, 2005.

Send beach volley bets
to Asiad, 2 groups ask

The Philippine Volleyball Federation and Beach Volleyball Association of the Philippines are pushing for the inclusion of beach volleyball teams in the squads to be sent by the Philippine Sports Commission to the Asian Games in Doha,Qatar in December.

PVF president Roger Banzuela said they are urging the PSC, headed by president Jose "Peping" Cojuangco, to include the beach volleyball teams in the squads that will banner the country in the quadrennial meet.

"We want the PSC to have our beach volley players join the Asian Games because they will be very competitive, especially if they will be given enough international exposure before the meet," Banzuela, who is also the BVAP president, said.
