Glenn Aguilar of the Philippines grabbed the spotlight when he
ruled the professionals open and 125 cc divisions in the second
round of the Camel Supercross International Championship Series
at the Santa Barbara Race Track in Iloilo City recently.
Aguilar, a 2004 Asian supercross champion, took the pro open
crown after winning against fellow Filipinos Jovie Saulog and Bebet
Dela Cruz, who finished second and third, respectively.
In the pro 125 cc race, Aguilar beat James Robinson of New
Zealand and Dela Cruz, second and third placers, respectively, to
reign supreme.
The former international supercross winner Aguilar also brought
home the pro 125 cc championship in the first round of the event
that was staged at the Talisay Stadium in Talisay City last month,
before losing to Robinson in the pro open category.
Rounding out the top ten riders in the pro open division were
Robinson, Kenneth San Andres, Popeye Rubi, Irwin Uypitching, Jerry
Beech, Joebanie Leyva and Kenneth Belleza.
San Andres, Saulog, Jimboy Marcelo, Uypitching and Beech finished
from fourth to eighth places, respectively, in the pro 125 cc category
of the event that drew about 130 competitors.
Riders from Canada, Saipan, Hong Kong and Guam also saw action
in the tournament that was supported by the National Motorcycle
Sports and Safety Association and the International Federation of
Motorcycles. *CIT
