The volunteers and teachers who will help the officiating crew
of the 1st Special Olympics will be given an orientation at the
University of St. La Salle in Bacolod City today.
Joaquin Benedicto, president of the Special Olympics-Negros
Chapter, will discuss the history and definition of the event in
the morning, and the technical aspect in the afternoon.
The Special Olympics, which aims to stage a province-wide
sports festival for all intellectually-disabled athletes, is scheduled
in September.
Participants in the seminar will be taught the proper ways
of officiating badminton, athletics, table tennis and powerlifting,
which are the disciplines lined up in the Special Olympics, event
coordinator Malot Lozada said.
The technical aspect of the four events will be taken up with
the volunteers and teachers handling intellectually-disabled in
45 minutes for each discipline, Lozada, who will spearhead the discussion
of the games' technicalities, said.*CIT
