The Philippine Information Agency recently announced
its IWAG awardees this year from various high schools, colleges
and universities in Western Visayas.
The award recognizes campus paper writers who
excelled in development communication, a PIA press release said.
Out of the 50 nominees, 31 were chosen, 10 of
them from Negros Occidental.
They are, in the high school level: Dorothy Gabo
of La Consolacion College Main-Bacolod, Jinky Ponte - La Consolacion
Academy in Murcia, Negros Occidental, Beulah May Corpuz - Bacolod
City High School, April Anne Espinosa - Bacolod Tay Tung High School,
Lauren Angela Santelices - Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod, Jison Golez
- University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, and Melnard Chilyn
Rafael - Negros Occidental High School. The college awardees are
Rene Ray Ransom Agui of The Lead, and Jeffry Gil Lingamen of Spectrum,
both of the University of St. La Salle-Bacolod, and Jeralyn Pasinabo
of The Tolentine Star - University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos
(Bacolod), the press release said.
An IWAG awardee will be given a gold medal and a
citation at the recognition or graduation ceremony of his or her
school. Almost a thousand campus paper writers have been recipients
of the award, the press release added.*

Allan
K to hold concert
Negrense comedian-singer Allan K will hold a concert
called "Allan K - In Concert and Laughter" at 7:30 p.m. on April
30 at the Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Activity Center, in Bacolod
City, a press release from the Capitol Government Employees Multi-Purpose
Cooperative said.
To perform the front act is "Kulai," a Bacolod-based
all-male group. Allan K is a regular host of two shows over national
television, the press release said.
The event is part of the Panaad sa Negros Festival
this year on the theme "Tatak Negros (Proudly Negros-made)."
Proceeds of the show will go to the CAPGEM Youth
Movement. Tickets are sold at P100 and P200 and are available at
various outlets. Reservations and inquiries may also be made with
the CAPGEM office at 432-2989 or 434-9952, the press release added.
Meanwhile, the pop dance showdown of the festival
-- open to all cities and towns of Negros Occidental -- is set at
8 p.m., April 23, at the Panaad Stadium, Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod.
The entry should be within the context of modern
dance, break dance, hiphop, disco, and street style, a Capitol press
release said. The local government unit should have only one entry,
and its participants should be from 13 to 21 years old.
Prizes are P20,000, P15,000 and P12,000 for
the first to third place winners, respectively, and a consolation
prize of P1,000 to the next 10 entries, the press release said.
Criteria for judging are, performance - 30 percent,
choreography/creativity - P25 percent, dance technique - 20 percent,
difficulty of the dance - 20 percent, and costume - 5 percent, the
press release added.*

SuperFerry
variety
show set Monday
A variety show will be held by SuperFerry Bacolod
from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Bacolod City public plaza to
launch its free shuttle bus service offer to passengers, a press
release from its management said.
Negros Occidental tourism officer Jennylind Cordero
will give the opening remarks, to be followed by the messages of
Gov. Joseph Maraņon and Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
Also set are song and dance numbers from schools,
sing-a-line from SuperFerry jingle games, and a message from the
SuperFerry management.
Arlette Capistrano, SuperFerry Western Visayas
Area manager, will give the closing remarks, the press release said.
The free shuttle bus service offer is for passengers
from the south, north and central points of Negros Occidental who
will be brought for free to the Bredco port, at the reclamation
area, in Bacolod, it also said.
The service is being adopted in cooperation with
the local bus and jeepney operators, the press release added.*
