Dads eye extension
of DENR deadline
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Philippine Councilors League in Central Visayas is contemplating to pass a resolution seeking an extension of the deadline set by law for the establishment of sanitary landfills among local government units.

At a press briefing before their three-day regional conference in Dumaguete City that started yesterday, the officers of the league headed by Roel de Gamo said, acquiring a sanitary landfill requires a huge amount of money.

Cindy Uy, a member of the Sangguniang Bayan of Manjuyod town, Oriental Negros said her LGU was able to purchase a lot, but did not meet the requirements set by the Department Environment and Natural Resources for the creation of a sanitary landfill.

BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Silliman University president Dr. Agustin Pulido is winding up his stint as the 11th president of the premier university in Dumaguete City, Oriental Negros.

Pulido will be replaced by Dr. Ben Malayang III starting June this year.

In his 10 years of service, Pulido said he had learned to work with critics of his administration rather than fighting them.

A faculty member said the term "pulido" in the Visayan dialect means quality service.

WITHHELD IRA
Dumaguete expects
P22M shares
BY RENE GENOVE

The Dumaguete City government is expecting to receive not less than P22 million as its share from the Internal Revenue Allotment withheld by the national government from 2000 to 2001.

In the meantime, Mayor Agustin Perdices said, he will have to discuss with the Sangguniang Panlungsod the system to be adopted to get the share, based on the recommendations of the national government.

The national government had recommended that the withheld funds be released either by monetization or by withdrawing the whole amount, less 30 percent interest. Perdices stressed the need to discuss the system with the SP members as the move involves public funds.
