Silliman braces for new prexy
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

Silliman University president Dr. Agustin Pulido is winding up his stint as the 11th president of the premier university in Dumaguete City, Oriental Negros.

Pulido will be replaced by Dr. Ben Malayang III starting June this year.

In his 10 years of service, Pulido said he had learned to work with critics of his administration rather than fighting them.

A faculty member said the term "pulido" in the Visayan dialect means quality service.

When he came to Silliman, Pulido's main problem was how to improve its finances. His success has resulted in improved salaries and benefits of the faculty and staff.

Buildings for the elementary school, the new College of Business Administration building, and the men's dormitory dining hall were also constructed during his stint.

Pulido said he is grateful for the cooperation of the students, faculty and staff as well as the alumni.

Malayang had been to Silliman on a three-day official visit.

In April and May, Malayang and Pulido are also expected to attend two different national conferences in Manila.

About 80 documents about Silliman were sent to Malayang to prepare him for his assumption of office, and ensure a smooth and orderly transition of the administration.*JG
