Dads to tackle Cha-cha today
BY JUANCHO GALLARDE

The Philippine Councilors League in Region 7 will take up the pros and cons in the proposed Charter Change as well as the no-election scenario in 2007, during a three-day regional council emergency convention in Dumaguete City that starts today.

Invited to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of amending the 1987 Constitution is former chairman of the Constitutional Commission, Dr. Jose Abueva, PCL Oriental Negros and regional chairman Roel de Gamo, said.

Members of the league will also have refreshers on the rules of parliamentary procedures as part of a continuing program, especially for the first termer-councilors.

In a press briefing yesterday, most if not all of the municipal and city councilors said they are in favor of holding the local elections in 2007 as scheduled under the law, and to tackle the proposed amendments of the Constitution only later.

Members of the league, on the other hand, are divided on the earlier declaration of a state of emergency by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.*JG
