New Bacolod gov't
center endorsed

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday signed the resolution of the City Peace and Order Council endorsing the construction of a new government center. Resolution No. 2006-1 was passed during the CPOC meeting on Feb. 8, a press release from City Hall said. The resolution said it recognizes the need of Bacolod City to have a new government center as the present city hall cannot cope with the demands of present governance. The CPOC also recognizes the inadequacy of the building in so far as responding to the present and future needs of Bacoleņos, it added.

The city has received 17 offers for the site of the proposed center.

Meanwhile, Leonardia instructed City Fire Marshal Senior Insp. Randy Pudadera to conduct an aggressive fire prevention information campaign in all the barangays of the city.

Leonardia called for the creation of a composite team to schedule regular visits to fire prone areas like Brgys. Singcang, Banago and Tangub.

Pudadera will also conduct fire safety drills and lectures in schools in order to teach precaution measures to school children.

During a recent City Disaster Coordinating Council meeting, Bacolod police director Senior Supt. Pedro Merced informed the committee that a "People's Day" will be held on March 11, where various disaster preparedness plans and police matters will be discussed.

The reactivation of the Barangay Disaster Coordinating Councils in the various barangays of the city was also suggested during the meeting so that it will be easy for the committee to coordinate in case a calamity occurs.*
