Robbers kill rice farmer
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A rice farmer who was shot in the head when he fought back against robbers, died, on Tuesday night in Brgy. Malingin, Bago City.

Jose Alvarez, 48, died from a lone gunshot wound in the head, Supt. Alex Belonio, Bago police chief, said.

Police investigations show that Alvarez had recently harvested from 10 hectares of his rice farms at Purok Marang in the barangay, and milled 1,000 sacks of palay.

Belonio said the suspects, who are not residents of the place, may have been tipped by their contact that Alvarez had a big amount of money at the time.

Bago policemen who responded to the shooting incident, failed to recover any empty shell of firearm used in the shooting.

Alvarez owns about 40 hectares of rice lands at Purok Marang and Acacia in Brgy. Malingin, Bago City, the police said.*GPB
