Goalkeeper Edward Sacapaņo, who played a crucial role in Negros
Occidental's National Football Open triumph in 2002, has been named
to the 31-player training camp roster of the Philippine Team that
will see action in the 2006 AFC Challenge Cup in Chittagong City,
Bangladesh.
Sacapaņo of Army Football Club is the only Negrense who made
the list posted at www.philfootball.com. The roster also includes
14 players, who were on the National Under-23 squad that played
in the SEA Games.
Surprisingly absent in the list made by RP XI coach Aris Caslib
was San Carlos City-born Arnie Pasinabo, the Most Valuable Player
of the PFF National Men's Open Championships in Iloilo City.
Pasinabo, who plays striker but also alternates as midfielder,
along with teenager Jason Panhay, goalkeeper Archie Bayquin and
defender Joel Ballo-Allo powered Negros Occidental to the title
at the expense of National Capital Region.
Panhay, 18, was named best midfielder of the national tournament,
while Bayquin of the University of St. La Salle and Ballo-Allo were
selected as best goalkeeper and defender, respectively.
Caslib, who was in Iloilo City two weeks ago to scout for
players to the RP Team, told the DAILY STAR he is keen on tapping
Ballo-Allo of West Negros College for the 2007 SEA Games in Bangkok.
The Philippines was drawn into Group A for the 2006 AFC Challenge
Cup along with India, Chinese Taipei, and Afghanistan.
SEA Games campaigners Aly Borromeo, Mark Villon, Jesan Candolesa,
Bervic Italia, Ian Araneta, Emelio Caligdong and Fil-Britons Phil
and James Younghusband also made the roster. *CPT
