Shakey's volleyball tilt
scheduled next month
BY CHRISTIAN IRL TAN

The Shakey's 18-Under Girls Volleyball Invitational Negros Occidental Eliminations is set from April 3 to 8 at the University of St. La Salle College Covered Court in Bacolod City.

Philippine Volleyball Federation president Roger Banzuela said the tournament is open to all secondary girls' volleyball teams in the public and private schools in the province.

Iloilo, Cebu and Manila will also stage their respective regional eliminations wherein the winners of each leg will face the champions of Negros in the Shakey's 18-Under Girls Volleyball Grand Finals from June 1 to 3 in Manila, Banzuela, who also serves as the president of the Negros Occidental Volleyball Association, said.

The Shakey's organizers will also shoulder the airfare and accommodation expenses of the regional titlists for the national tournament, except for the Manila champion, he said.

The volleybelles of the competing teams, including the Negros-based squads, should be born on or after 1988 and be enrolled in the 2005-2006 school year to qualify for the event, he added.

A registration fee of P500 will also be collected from the teams that want to join the tournament, he said.

Banzuela said the registration fee will be used for the trophies and medals of the winners because Shakey's will only shoulder the officiating expenses of the tournament.

The local organizers will also look for additional sponsors to boost their funding for the awards expenses, he said.

Interested teams that wish to see action in the event may contact Banzuela at the USLS Varsity Sports Office at telephone number 434-6929. *CIT
