La Salle 'winningest' school
in Nopsscea with 22 titles

BY CHRISTIAN IRL TAN

University of St. La Salle retained its overall championship after snaring 22 team titles in the 2005-2006 season of the Negros Occidental Private Schools, Sports, Cultural and Educational Association sports meet in Bacolod City.

The La Sallians finished their successful overall championship campaign with a resounding 103-65 victory over St. John's Institute to grab the aspirants boys' basketball crown at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School recently.

La Salle, which finished with 20 team titles last year, also snatched the aspirants volleyball crowns after its boys and girls' teams crushed University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Talisay, 25-13, 25-7, and La Consolacion College-Main, 25-20, 25-17, respectively at the USLS College Covered Court.

USLS sports director Roger Banzuela said the feat is a product of the long years of preparation and determination of the student-athletes and their respective coaches. "We have already established a long-term sports program and all we need is to maintain it to keep on winning. I'm glad that the students always give it their best," Banzuela said.

BTTHS placed second overall after collecting eight team championships, while West Negros College and UNO-R Bacolod shared the third and fourth places with six team crowns each. St. Scholasitca's Academy finished fifth with four team titles.

The other team crowns of the La Sallians came in the men and women's categories of the collegiate level of athletics, lawn tennis, swimming, taekwondo and volleyball. USLS also retained its sepak takraw championship.

USLS also took the crowns of the boys and girls' lawn tennis, boys' swimming and the junior and high school boys' volleyball in the secondary division. The La Sallians also ruled the boys and girls' swimming and boys' lawn tennis in the elementary contest. *CIT
