A Department of Education official reminded the coaches and trainers
to instill more discipline to the Negros athletes who will see action
in the 2006 Western Visayas Regional Athletics Association Meet
from March 16 to 21 at the Villareal Stadium in Roxas City, Capiz.
In a meeting at the Panaad Park and Stadium Monday, Felipe
Dumancas, DepEd Physical Education and School Sports head, told
the different coaches and trainers to make sure that their student-athletes
are following the sleeping and eating rules set by the Negros delegation
officials.
The DepEd found out that some members of the Negrense contingent
stay out late and are not eating their meals at the proper times
so the coaches and trainers need to check their athletes more, Manuel
De Oro, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Sports and Development
Office, said.
"We really need to maximize the skills and talents of our
athletes, but we cannot do this if some of them will not cooperate
with us," De Oro said. Majority of the Negrense student-athletes
are currently practicing at Panaad, while the competitors in the
jumping events are training at the Paglaum Sports Complex.
The regional meet-bound athletes, except for the boxing
team and those who are coming from Bacolod City and the NOPSSCEA,
are also billeted at Panaad. De Oro said the DepEd also took up
the condition of the practice areas and the waste management problems
of the athletes during the meeting.
There are also no billeting problems for the athletes who
will leave on March 12, 15 and 16, he added.
Negros brought home the overall championship in the secondary
level of the regional school-based meet in Iloilo City last year,
while the Ilonggos claimed the overall crown in the elementary category.
