Bridge inaugurated
in Kabankalan City

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Camugao modular steel bridge in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, was held recently with Vice Gov. Isidro Zayco Jr. and director Joy Madayag of the provincial Interior and Local Government as guest speakers, a Kabankalan City press release said yesterday.

A time capsule was lowered by Mayor Pedro Zayco, assisted by Vice Mayor Raul Rivera and city officials, with Board Member Adolfo Mangao Sr. (Neg.Occ., 6th district) and barangay officials.

The P44-million, 120-linear meter bridge is a joint project of the Presidential Bridge Program called "Tulay Ni Gloria" and the Kabankalan government.

It is the longest two-way lane bridge in Western Visayas that crosses the Ilog River and connects Brgy. Camugao to Brgys. 8 and 9 in the city proper, the press release said. The bridge will bolster business in the city, Mayor Zayco said. It will also benefit residents of Brgys. Camugao, Linao, Tampalon and other upland barangays, the press release added.*

10-year-old needs help

A 10-year-old resident from Hda. Oliva 1, Brgy. Blumentritt, Murcia town, Negros Occidental now confined at Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City, and diagnosed to have typhoid fever, is seeking the help of DAILY STAR readers for his continued medication.

Thelma Patinio, mother of 10-year-old Jay-ar, yesterday said they are financially hard-up and cannot buy the medicines for the patient who has been confined in the hospital since Feb. 24.

The 46-year-old Thelma and husband, Eduardo, 48, both work as sugarcane workers and have six children.

Hospital records show that Jay-ar, the youngest, was brought to the CLMMRH for suffering intermittent fever with abdominal pain, and for having loose bowel movement.

His mother said they can not afford to buy the daily medicines for Jay-ar that cost about P600 because she and her husband earn only a meager income, and their five other children are unemployed. Any help for the patient may be coursed through the DAILY STAR office.*GCT
