Forum set today to mark
Women's Day celebration
BY RENE GENOVE

A forum called "Men Speak Out On VAW (Violence Against Women)" will be conducted by the Gender Watch Against Violence and Exploitation in observance of the International Women's Day celebration, at 1 p.m. today at the Bethel Guesthouse, in Dumaguete City.

The GWAVE is a non-government organization offering legal assistance to abused women and children.

The men-participants are expected to express their views on the issue of violence against women. The all-male panel will include personalities from the Oriental Negros government, academe, church, students sector and the media.

The forum aims at providing a venue for the men's insights on the problem of violence against women while promoting partnership between men and women in the struggle against gender-based violence.

Linda Resma, GWAVE coordinator, said the phenomenon of violence against women is in the forefront of gender concerns. As a result of decades of women's advocacy, laws have been passed, services established, research reports published and preventive education work conducted and yet violence against women continues unabated, she added.*RG
