After 10 years, the Bureau of Internal Revenue has recommended
the upgrading and amendment of the existing zonal valuation in Dumaguete
City in consultation with the sub-technical committee.
Officer-in-charge Arturo Acabal of the BIR Revenue District
No. 79, said the new system will be used as basis in computing the
national internal revenue taxes.
Acabal stressed the need to upgrade the zonal values after
the government has been deprived of needed revenues for so many
years.
He added that the proposed valuation will be presented at
a public hearing tomorrow at the DCCO Building in Dumaguete, that
will be attended by representatives from BIR national office, members
of the national asset valuation committee, and delegates from the
BIR in Central Visayas and in Bacolod City.
Acabal said he has noted that the market values determined
by assessors are even higher compared to those of the BIR under
the present zonal valuation.
He also said he believes that the actual transactions in
the purchase of real properties are not even disclosed to the BIR
office in order to do away with the zonal valuation.
Acabal assured the taxpayers that the rates are reasonable
because the proposal passed the approval of the sub-technical committee
and the BIR
He enjoined taxpayers to share their ideas on the proposed zonal
valuation during the public hearing.*JG
