NGO forum tackles
women's role in rural dev't

The Center for People's Agricultural Plan for the 21st Century Inc. will hold a forum on rural women at 9 a.m. today at the Tuburan Farm in Mansilingan, Bacolod City, a press release from the group said.

The forum theme is "The Important Role of Women in Rural Development." Expected to attend are about 30 participants from the farmer-partners of PAP 21 from eight barangays and villages in the province.

The resource speaker will be May Almamento of the Bureau of Rural Workers of the Department of Labor and Employment, the press release said.

PAP 21, a non-government organization working for food security and rural development through the promotion and practice of organic agriculture, has been working with women by raising their awareness on their rights and their role in rural development, it added. Its independent research shows that 60 percent of farm work is done by women but most of the time, their roles are downplayed and unrecognized, the press release also said.*
