LTFRB says: We're acting
on fake franchise problem

BY CHRYSEESAMILLANO

Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board regional director Porfirio Clavel yesterday said his office is doing everything to resolve the problem of fake franchises in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental.

The drivers and victims of fake franchises in Bacolod City, earlier, said they will be forced to file anti-graft charges against LTFRB if the problem is not resolved.

Clavel said even the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod had passed a resolution asking LTFRB to open additional franchises for the victims of fake franchises, and added that he had also explained the case in all their conferences with the LTFRB.

However, the LTFRB Board has not yet resolved the problem of fake franchises and there is a need for it issue an order or memorandum circular on the matter, he said. As far as LTFRB 6 is concerned, we are doing everything to grant the legalization of fake franchise but there are certain requirements to be complied with, Clavel said.

He said the Bacolod Traffic Authority has coordinated with his office, and that he has also discussed the problem with Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia. He said United Negros Drivers Operators Center secretary general Jessie Ortega has also visited LTFRB and he knows that they are doing everything to resolve the problem of fake franchises.

Meanwhile, Clavel said the temporary closure of the LTFRB Extension Office in Bacolod was the decision of the Board. He said all the LTFRB Extension Office nationwide have been ordered closed in view of the impending rationalization of its personnel.

Clavel said he is waiting for the LTFRB Board to act on his request to re-open the extension office in Bacolod or to be allowed to conduct mobile-franchising so that they could serve the stakeholders in Negros.*CGS
