A group of painters and visual artists called "Pintor
Kulapol," led by internationally known artist, Nunie Alvarado, spearheaded
the closing program of the National Arts Month celebration at Margaha
Beach in Brgy. Old Sagay, Sagay City, Negros Occidental, recently,
a press release from the city said yesterday.
Installation arts were put up by the participating
artists along the shorelines while paintings and artworks were displayed
in a bamboo gallery.
Trash along the whole length of the coast were
collected and converted into artworks.
Sagay Vice Mayor Joseph Gerard Maraņon and executive
director Manny Lopez of the Solid Waste Management Council lauded
the artists' efforts in caring for and cleaning the environment
as well as turning "trash into cash", the press release said.
Artists and writers from Cebu, Iloilo and Manila
joined the celebration.
Also present at the event were the MassKara Theater
Ensemble, Mass Communication students of St. La Salle Bacolod City,
and Philippine Daily Inquirer columnist Amadis Guerrero, who were
treated to a river cruise from Brgy. Old Sagay to Brgy. Fabrica
where the Bunga Gallery of Alvarado is located, the press release
added.*

healing seminar set
A seminar-workshop on wholistic healing of the Philippine
Breast Cancer Network will be held March 10-12, at Gintubdan Resort
in Bago City, Negros Occidental, a press release from Bosom Care,
the Bacolod Breast Cancer Support Group, said.
The event will focus on the new approach to cancer
treatment that involves neither mammogram or mastectomy. It is being
held bi-annually at the Breast Haven in Tiaong, Quezon, and this
is the fist time it will be conducted in the Visayas.
The main speaker will be Danny Meneses, president
of PBCN, the press release said.
To be discussed are Breast Knowledge (anatomy,
physiology, hormones and ailments), Breast Cancer Prevention, Breast
Health and Environment, Breast Cancer Detection and Treatment Options
(traditional and alternative) Breast Lymphatic and Immune System
(Detoxication and alternative) and Breast Cancer Advocacy and the
Environmental Breast Cancer Movement, the press release said.
In between lectures will be film-showings, group
discussions and sharings among breast cancer survivors.
Meneses put up the Rosa F. Meneses Breast Cancer
Foundation following the death of his wife in 2000. He has participated
in numerous breast cancer conferences from Brussels to Ontario;
keynote speaker in the 2002 World Conference on Breast Cancer in
Victoria, British Columbia; and the plenary speaker in the 2005
World Conference on Breast Cancer in Halifax, Nova Scotia, it also
said.

Project
prosthesis on
Orthopedists are coming to Bacolod City on March
27 to conduct Project Prosthesis to assist the less privileged who
want to avail of equipment, a press release from organizers said.
The project is being undertaken by the Southern
Negros Fil-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. headed
by Adolfo Lim, The Northern Negros Fil-Chinese Chamber of Commerce
and Industry Inc. led by Lorenzo Ong, and The Negros Se Ho Lim Association
Inc. headed by Albert Lim.

Riverside
alumni group
renders community service
The Riverside College Alumni Association officers,
in coordination with Gawad Kalinga National Program, rendered their
community service at the "Smile Village" in Vista Alegre, Granada,
Murcia, Negros Occidental recently.
The group was led by Thor Famillaran, president,
together with the administration and faculty members led by Jean
Rivera, vice president, and administrator Mary Ann Mirasol, dean
of the College of Arts and Sciences Ervie Gallespen, assistant dean
Maricor Famillaran and PIO Lourdes Amar.
The Riverside group proceeded to "Smile Village"
where ten houses were assigned to them for painting. The group of
more than 100 people were able to finish the job before the end
of the day. The Christian Youth Association based in Riverside and
some students were assigned to gardening and some of the faculty
members to tutorials for the children of the residents.*
