Inclusion of softball in reg'l
Palaro to boost Negros bid
BY CHRISTIAN IRL TAN

World berries team of Education and Training Center School will represent Negros Occidental in the newly-added little league softball competition of the 2006 Western Visayas Regional Athletics Association Meet from March 16 to 21 at the Villareal Stadium in Roxas City, Capiz.

Nanette Roa of the Department of Education yesterday said the inclusion of the little league softball competitions, which was not played in the Palarong Panlalawigan in Bacolod City in December last year, was only relayed to them by the National DepEd last month.

This will be the first time that the little league softball event had been included in the calendar of events and I think that we have a good chance of winning it, she said.

Aside from its successful campaigns in the World Series, ETCS has also shone in the national scene by bringing home the Philippine Series Little League crown for four consecutive years.

Pitchers Veronica Belleza and Analie Benjamin are expected to lead the championship bid of the ETCS squad that is mentored by Lagrimas Ciokon, Vilda Benjamin and Dina Barlita. Also in the roster ETCS are Clariz Palma, Michelle Lentija, Charmaine Joy Oria, Cindy Carrol Banay, Andrea Mae Gonzales, Sundai Mae Alipato. Rubielyn Lentija, Christine Sebuan and Ma. Dianne Treyes.

The ETCS softbelles are currently training at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City.

Aside from the little league softball, events also lined up in the elementary category are the boys and girls' athletics, badminton, baseball, chess, gymnastics, lawn tennis, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball, and the boys' football and sipa. Calendared in the secondary competitions are the boys' and girls' archery, athletics, chess, badminton, lawn tennis, gymnastics, table tennis, swimming, volleyball and taekwondo, girls' softball, and the boys' basketball, baseball and boxing.

Negros snared the overall title in the secondary category of the regional meet in Iloilo last year, while the Ilonggos took the overall championship in the elementary division. *CIT
