Dizon chess tourney on
BY CHRISTIAN IRL TAN

The 1st JRR Dizon Foundation Age-Group Chess Tournament kicks off at 8 a.m. today at the University of St. La Salle-Integrated School Covered Court in Bacolod City.

The competing woodpushers will be vying for the championships in the elementary boys and girls', and secondary boys and girls' categories of the two-day tournament.

Tournament director Jessie Sanchez said the number of participants has dwindled from 200 to 163 because he has cancelled the reservation slots of those who failed to register yesterday. The players who were not able to gain spots yesterday will not be allowed to register today because the organizers want the event to be spontaneous, Sanchez said.

Bro. Rolly Dizon, FSC, the principal sponsor of the chess competitions with Eleuterio Capistrano, will give the keynote speech during the opening ceremonies.

The tournament is also sponsored by the JRR Dizon Foundation, Inc. in cooperation with Raymundo R. Dizon Jr. Memorial Foundation and the Chess Players Federation of Negros.

Participants are advised to bring their own chess set and clock during the event, Sanchez said. *CIT
