Citation tickets were issued starting Wednesday to stall owners
in the 10 buildings of the Dumaguete City Public Market Complex
who ignored rules and regulations for maintaining cleanliness in
their premises.
Supervisor Jose Ronnie Fortin of the city Market Enterprise
said the new system against "stubborn" stallholders was implemented
to smoothen business transactions and to maintain sanitation in
the market.
Fortin said the citation ticket will help discipline stallholders
who disregard city ordinances on sanitation, and to help the vendors
in selling their produce and merchandise.
He said ambulant vendors will still be allowed to peddle their
goods but only outside the market buildings to prevent them from
competing with the legitimate business operators who are paying
fees for permits.
Meanwhile, Fortin said his office will strengthen its cleanliness
drive at the fish terminal at Building 1 of the market.
He said he has observed that its occupants are ignoring the sanitation
regulations of the city, resulting in a dirty market place.*RG
