Different designs, innovations and inventions of graduating students
of the Silliman University College of Engineering were shown recently
to the public in the celebration of the annual engineering days.
The Engineering Expose 2006 features the innovations of senior
engineering students, and included the second prize winner of the
recent Oriental Negros Innovations Awards.
ProTek's Watchdog 24 landed second place with a P25,000 prize.
It is a wireless security system project of SU engineering students
that monitors the status of a site for 24 hours and reports an event
to the user within 2-3 seconds through a text message.
Another innovation displayed to the public was the copra dryer
of a group of engineering students, intended for the farmers.
Dean Marito Bucol of the SU College of Engineering said the
holding of exhibits started three years ago with the Eureka project.
He said the exhibits have created a business opportunity for the
students, aside from recognizing their efforts while they are about
to leave the school.*JG
