Dumaguete City Councilor Rotelio Lumjod said he favors a review
of a city ordinance raising the fee of mayor's permits for motorcab
drivers from P27 to P400, or a 1,900 percent increase.
The enforcement of the ordinance was met with strong opposition
from the tricycle drivers and operators who said it is unreasonable,
unfair and an additional burden to them.
At the city council's regular session last week, ordinance
author Councilor Sammy Dicen stood pat on what was approved during
several public hearings, even as the roving tricycle drivers claimed
they were not asked to attend the public hearings.
Lumjod, along with other members of the city council, said
they are amenable to a review of the pertinent provisions of the
ordinance especially on the rates.
He added that he is in favor of lowering the mayor's permits for
the drivers.*
