Alex Borromeo and Salvador Diesmo posted a victory over Nielbert
Callupez and Eden Rosales in the finals to bring home the men's
doubles open crown of the 2nd Nike Park Smash and Drop Challenge
at the Pohang Badminton Center in Bacolod City over the weekend.
The tandem of Lawrence Deanon and Mark Tomayo defeated Richard
Bringas and Neil Escares to snare the title of the men's doubles
class A division of the tournament that was competed in by shuttlers
from Bacolod, Cebu, Capiz, Iloilo, Dumaguete and Aklan.
The men's doubles class B category was ruled by the pair of
Ian De Asis and Bernard Sua after beating Marlowe Cortez and Hector
Lopez, while the duo of Mikhail Nacisvalencia and Josh Penn Escubio
scored a win over Bong Ababao and Gildo Ang for the men's doubles
class C title.
Joel Togado and Glenn Ong took the men's doubles class D when
they prevailed over Jestonie Gonzaga and Alexander Francisco in
the championship showdown.
Nikki Servando and Mary Joy Fernandez registered a triumph
over the team of Maika Mora and Precious Ballenas for the ladies'
doubles class B crown, while Grace Baticados and Eden Bustilo beat
Mayette Yanson and Beverly Lacson in the ladies' doubles class C
finals.
Topping the ladies' doubles class D category were Shirley
Wee and Marcelyn Angelo as they defeated Aileen Clavel and Jackie
Tinsay.
Riverside College standouts Borromeo and Rosalie Soberano
teamed up to grab the mixed doubles open championship by winning
against Eden Rosales and Desiree Yanson, while Ryan Tiu and Jana
Tiu reigned supreme in the mixed doubles intermediate division after
prevailing over Rene Ledesma and Jinky Co.
Joel Bernas and Arlyn Balagot posted a win over Francis Cabantug
and Anna Torrejon to seize the mixed doubles average title of the
tournament that was staged for the benefit of the Holy Infant Nursery.
The tandem of Servando, a student at the Trinity Christian
School, and Christian Crisostomo snatched the 12-Under doubles crown
by defeating Daryl Covacha and Ballenas, while John Paul Deanon
and George Mahinay prevailed over Don Colmenares and Kevin Cioco
in the finals to haul the 13-16 doubles championship.
The badminton tournament was supported by the Negros Occidental
