Victorias City is being eyed to host the 2nd leg of the revived
Negros Occidental Track and Field Association Age-Group Athletics
Competition next month.
NOTAFA president Roger Banzuela said they are considering
Victorias to host the age-group hostilities because it has a track
oval and other facilities needed to stage the event.
Banzuela said he has written to Mayor Severo Palanca of Victorias
to ask if the city is willing to host the 2nd leg of the athletics
competitions.
The Escalante City local government, headed by Mayor Santiago
Barcelona, hosted and sponsored the 1st leg of the revived age-group
hostilities over the weekend after a 3-year hiatus.
Barcelona will also help in convincing the different mayors
in Negros Occidental, including Palanca, to continue their support
for the event, Banzuela said.
NOTAFA is also eyeing cities in Southern Negros such as Kabankalan,
La Carlota and Bago to host the future legs of the age-group athletics
competitions because these cities also have adequate facilities
to stage the event, he said.
Escalante City-A, spearheaded by 12-year-old Jesrael Bayotas
and Marjorie Rosales, claimed the team championships of the elementary
boys and girls' category during the 1st leg at the Escalante Central
Elementary School Oval.
Victorias City relied on the prowess of Emmanuel De Ocampo,
a senior at the Victorias National High School, and Kiezel Pedrina
to take the secondary boys and girls' team crowns.
Squads that joined the 1st leg of the age-group meet were Trinity
Christian School, Victorias, Bacolod Tay Tung High School, Himamaylan
City, Escalante-A and B, ATLETA and Silay City. *CIT
