'POC to discuss
issue vs. Peping'
BY CHRISTIAN IRL TAN

Officials of the Philippine Olympic Committee will meet to discuss the political issue facing POC president Jose "Peping" Cojuangco who might be arrested for his alleged involvement in the destabilization plot against the national government, Rep. Monico Puentevella said yesterday.

The POC officials will meet soon to tackle the issue and clarify the situation of Cojuangco because there are no concrete reports as of yet, Puentevella said.

Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye has linked Cojuangco, brother of former president Corazon Aquino, to the destabilization effort, along with ally Pastor "Boy" Saycon, following the series of citizens' mass actions during the 20th anniversary celebration of Edsa I recently.

Cojuangco, however, denied on national television the charges of Malacaņang. "I already have my hands full with sports matters," he said.

Puentevella said he does not want to make any comments regarding the issue because they might be construed as self-serving since he will be tasked to head the POC if the reports on Cojuangco are true. Puentevella is the vice-president of the country's Olympic body.

He also said he has no substantial information on the issue between Cojuangco and the Philippine government as his information comes from the reports in the daily newspapers and television.

"The issue is between Cojuangco and Malacaņang. We'll just have to wait for any developments," Puentevella added. *CIT
