Officials of the Negros Basketball Association have agreed to finalize the number of participating squads in the NBA-Mayor's Cup Summer Basketball Tournament next week during a meeting yesterday at the Dodong's Fastbreak Restaurant of Bascon Hotel in Bacolod City.

NBA president Oscar "Dodong" Bascon said the number of competing teams will be finalized next week when West Negros College returns from its stint in the 60th National Students Inter-Collegiate Basketball Championships in Bicol.

Aside from WNC, possible squads that will vie for the crown are defending champion Your Basketball Athletic Club-Emarken, Ceres Liners and Toyota-Iloilo, Bascon said.

Teams from University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, Colegio de San Agustin-Bacolod and University of St. La Salle will also most likely see action in the tournament, he added.

The collegiate squads --- West Negros, UNO-R, La Salle and CSA-B --- will carry the name of their commercial sponsors, he said.

Bascon said he has also sent an invitation to the basketball squad of Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, an adopted son of Bacolod, to join the tournament.

If the cagers of Pacquiao, who are coached by Negrense Nonoy Pido, will compete in the summer event, it will be a boost in increasing the enthusiasm of Negrenses in basketball, he said.

The meeting also took up the rules and regulations, officiating crew and guidelines to be followed during the tournament, Bascon added. *CIT
