Knockout tiffs in
TKP Cup tonight

A pair of knockout games are scheduled tonight at the start of the first phase of the quarterfinal round of the 6th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Cup Basketball Tournament at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

Bracket B fourth placer Krua Thai battles fifth-ranked Buddy's from Group A at 6:30 p.m., before Bracket A No. 4 Po's Panasonic takes on Probac.

Two more quarterfinal encounters are set tomorrow with Bracket B No. 3 BBC colliding with sixth-ranked Tangub, before Summit-AMG tackles Davies-Republic Hardware.

Summit-AMG Pawnshop secured the no. 3 spot in Bracket A with an 81-78 victory over Buddy's.

Summit-AMG survived the hot shooting of Tommy Andren in the final period as he fired his fourth triple to give Buddy's its first lead, 74-72, with 1:36 left.

But AMG responded with a 7-0 run as Arvin Gustilo hit a triple and Richard Co nailed a jumper, before Salvador Bonza sealed the win by converting two free throws.

Jessimar Gabihan led AMG with 16 points, while Gustilo added 14. Salvador Bonza and Richard Co contributed 10 apiece.

Andren finished with 25 points with Badong Eufre scoring 13 for Buddy's which dropped to fifth place in their bracket with the loss. Meanwhile, TBAC completed a seven-game sweep of the elimination round with a 110-95 triumph over Tangub Basketball Association. *CPT
