Offense may just be the best defense for the Domingo Lacson National
High School girls' softball squad when it competes in the 2006 World
Series Senior League Championship in August in Sussex, Delaware.
DLNHS coach Hernando "Kulafu" Posadas yesterday said that
his squad is concentrating on its batting during practices to boost
their chances of winning the world title. "The players are really
practicing hard on their batting. Offense will be a huge factor
in our campaign," Posadas told the DAILY STAR.
DLNHS earned the right to represent Philippines in the WS
after besting Indonesia and Guam in the Asia-Pacific Girls' Senior
League Softball Tournament in Manila last week.
The Domingo Lacson lady clouters, who have placed fifth in
their past two WS bids, also defended its championship in the Palarong
Pambansa in Naga City last month.
Aside from their offense, the DLNHS players are also training
on their physical conditioning that will be vital against bigger
and stronger rivals, Posadas said. He said that his team's chances
could not be gauged as of yet because he has not seen the plays
of their opponents.
The players are already seasoned in international competitions
so they just need to add more offense and gain more stamina to put
up good results in the WS, he added. WS veterans Vicky Rose Belleza
and Julie Marie Muyco will most likely spearhead DLNHS' campaign,
while Maricar Barrientos, Harlene Joy Tubongbanua and Elvie Entrina
are also expected to provide firepower.
Also composing the Domingo Lacson squad are Leny Aspa, Jessa Janice
Berondo, Anavic Jugos, Ma. Kristin Gulfan, Mary Chris Gidalanon,
Koline Nojas, Barbara Lauriquez, Elna Parohinog and Marlyn Francisco.
