BY CHRISTIAN IRL TAN

They used to be perennial favorites in long-distance races, but they entered this event as underdogs.

The marathoners from Himamaylan City, however, proved yesterday that they were still a force to reckon with by clocking in six hours, 35 minutes and 47 seconds to take the early lead in first leg of the 2nd Negros Marathon Relay from Hinoba-an to Kabankalan City.

Trailing the Nani Bolivar-mentored Himamaylan team were the cities of Escalante and Silay-Happi as they timed in at 6:49:33 and 6:53:25, respectively, while reigning titlist Bago City had a lackluster performance, finishing fourth in 6:55:27.

CONDITIONING CRUCIAL
TO WORLD SERIES SUCCESS, COACH SAYS
BY CHRISTIAN IRL TAN

After a hard-earned title haul in the Asia Pacific Girls' Senior League Softball Tournament, the coach and players of the Domingo Lacson National High School girls' softball squad upon their arrival at the BREDCO Port in Bacolod City yesterday said that their loss to Indonesia in the tournament was a valuable lesson for their success in the future.

DLNHS coach Hernando "Kulafu" Posadas said the campaign was the toughest that his team has encountered so far because they were already at the brink of elimination before recuperating to bring home the crown. "Losing a game was really unexpected. I think that the players were just overconfident, but I'm thankful that we were able to pull through," Posadas added.
