NFSP calls for review
of wage classification

The president of the National Federation of Sugarcane Planters Inc. has called on the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board of Western Visayas to review the categorization of plantation and the Sugar Industry Pakyaw Rates, a press release from the NFSP said.

NFSP president Enrique Rojas wrote RTWPB chairman Carlos Boteros, on July 21, that the rates should reflect the present cost of production and the prevailing practices in the sugar industry.

Under the new order in the sugar industry wages for mill workers will be - P235, plantations with capitalization of more than P3 million - P203 and not more than P3 million - P185, and for non plantation workers - P180, the press release said.

IT Team pushes
for MT industry

The Bacolod City IT Focus Team and Mayor Evelio Leonardia are pushing for the establishment of the Medical Transcription Industry in the city, citing the growing demand of more hospitals in the United States that are outsourcing their MT needs to the Philippines, a press release from the office of Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue said.

Batapa said the IT Team and MT Industry can provide job opportunities for nurses and unemployed graduates of medical courses in Bacolod.

There is a growing demand for MT now because more hospitals are outsourcing their MT needs to the Philippines because of a US law that requires all medical records to be digitized, MT trainer Ryan Herrera of MTC Academy said in the same press release. An efficient medical transcriptionist can earn as much as P3,000 a day based on the records of Accutype and Innovaquest, two firms all specializing in medical transcription, Batapa said.

CEB will utilize its brand new A319 to service the new route. The Manila-Legaspi service departs Manila at 1:30pm, arriving in Legaspi at 2:20pm and leaves Legaspi at 2:50pm to arrive back in Manila at 3:40pm. Lance Gokongwei, CEB president and CEO, said the introduction of the Manila-Legaspi service reinforces the airline's vision and commitment to make travel within the country more affordable and convenient for both local and international travelers.

"We are positive that our entry to Legaspi will help strengthen local tourism because of the low fares we are introducing to this destination. We want to make it possible for every Filipino to fly," he said.
