SJI cagers pace aspirants' tilt

St. John's Institute trounced different opponents over the weekend to lead the NOPSSCEA aspirants boys' basketball tournament at the Negros Occidental Multi-Purpose Gym in Bacolod City.

The SJI dribblers routed Bacolod Christian Education Center School, 67-31, Saturday, before trampling St. Augustine International School, 71-53, Sunday to pace the tournament with a 3-0 slate.

Raymund Lacson and Mark Alvin Uy canned 24 points each against SAIS to topscore for St. John's. Leading the offense of St. Augustine was Mark Arsenal as he exploded for 30 points, while Joel Padilla poured in 19 markers.

Defending champion University of St. La Salle also had its way by ripping St. Benilde School, 68-27, Saturday, before registering a 66-15 demolition of Bacolod Christian Education Center School Sunday.

University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Bacolod also posted two wins over the weekend after dispatching St. Rose of Lima School, 66-53, and nipping UNO-R Talisay, 44-40.

Colegio de San Agustin-Bacolod manhandled SAIS, 93-26, before scoring a resounding 59-39 victory against SBS to open its campaign with a 2-0 win-loss card.

Other games saw Mansilingan Christian Academy enjoying a walkover triumph against St. Joseph's School-La Salle; West Negros College prevailing over SRLS, 41-35; SJS-La Salle defeating Bacolod Tay Tung High School, 56-50, and UNO-R Talisay edging WNC, 55-53.

In the elementary division, BTTHS drubbed CSA-B, 76-22, for its second victory, while La Salle hammered SRLS, 88-14. SJI pounded Jack and Jill School-PHHC, 84-9, while UNO-R Bacolod crushed Trinity Christian School, 34-23. BCECS posted a 53-38 win over Mansilingan as the SBS cagers nipped St. Theresita's Academy, 29-24.*CIT
