The lack of funding for the Western Visayas' campaign in the National
Private Schools and Athletics Association Games in Pangasinan has
already been solved, Fr. Emilio Jaruda, president of the WV PRISAA,
said yesterday.
The Western Visayas athletes and delegation officials can
now focus on their training because they do not have to worry anymore
about the budget, Jaruda told the DAILY STAR.
Six PRISAA member-schools from Iloilo, Negros Occidental Private
Schools Sports, Cultural and Educational Association, and Iloilo
PRISAA will shoulder the P600,000 lacking from the P1.7 million
budget, he said.
University of San Agustin, Central Philippine University,
Iloilo Doctor's College, John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation, Western
Institute of Technology and University of Iloilo will lend the Region
VI PRISAA P50,000 each for the national competition, he said.
The Iloilo PRISAA will pay its membership fee in advance for
P100,000, while P200,000 will be borrowed from NOPSSCEA to cover
the expenses of the delegation, he added.
About 213 athletes, coaches and delegation officials,
with 78 athletes coming from Negros, will represent the Region VI
contingent that will see action in the national meet from Feb. 6
to 11 in the different venues in Lingayen and Dagupan City, Pangasinan.
WV PRISAA athletic manager Roger Banzuela said the bulk of
the P1.7 million budget will be used for the transportation of the
delegation estimated at P975,600, while the remaining funds will
be spent for the food, accommodation and uniforms of the contingent.
Negros, composed of standouts from University of St. La Salle,
West Negros College, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos,
Riverside College and Visayan Maritime Academy, will banner nine
out of the 19 sports that Western Visayas will be joining in.
Aside from the Negrenses, athletes from Aklan, Iloilo, Capiz and
Antique will also represent Region VI that brought home the overall
crown of the National PRISAA Games in Zamboanga City last year.
