A former member of the market task force in Dumaguete City was
stabbed Saturday evening by a suspected drug personality in Barangay
Looc, in the city and died 1 a.m. Sunday, two hours after he was
brought to the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital.
The victim was identified as Felipe Merced Duran, 47, married,
of Camanjac, Dumaguete City who succumbed to two stab wounds in
his right armpit allegedly inflicted by Amid Gom-os Alaton with
a Rambo type knife.
The crime was allegedly witnessed by Alan Soreņo who owns
the store in Zone 4, Looc where the incident took place.
According to Soreņo, Alaton, without provocation stabbed Duran
twice while the latter was paying for a bottle of beer.
Police pursuit operations resulted in the apprehension of
the suspect and the recovery of the stainless Rambo-type knife,
which was reportedly cleaned by the suspect. The suspect had refused
to admit nor deny involvement to the crime.
Alaton said he prefers to answer and face the murder charges
in court. He is assisted by a Public Attorneys Office lawyer, surnamed
Cabusao.
During inquest proceedings, the suspect wanted to file counter
affidavits during preliminary investigation. Meanwhile, a suspect
in the shooting incident at Purok Sto. Nino, Upper Cadawinonan,
Dumaguete, was arrested on the strength of a standing warrant of
arrest for theft.
Arrested was Wison Sayre Jalandoni, alias James Sayre
and "Patat", 27, single, of Balugo, Valencia, Oriental Negros.
He was nabbed in Salag, Siaton Saturday dawn at the residence
of his uncle by a joint team composed of National Bureau of Investigation,
Philippine National Police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Witnesses pointed to Jalandoni as the alleged triggerman of a
certain Jonatham Gramatica, 20, single of Talay who was shot dead
while on his way home with several companions, after a benefit dance
in the barangay, dawn of Saturday.*JG
