Robbers molest woman

A couple was robbed and the wife raped by the suspects at gunpoint at about 8:30 p.m. Friday, in Bayawan City, Oriental Negros.

The names of the victims, who are in their 20s, are being withheld by the DAILY STAR.

Armed with long firearms, including a shotgun, the suspects identified as Rufino Tigle Jr., 21, single, of Sitio Bananigan, Tayawan, Bayawan, and Juvilon Lorenzo, 21, single of Tabuan, Bayawan allegedly demanded for the wallets of the victims that contained P300.

The suspects then demanded for P10,000 more.

Because of fear, the husband asked the robbers to allow him to get money from his father who lives a kilometer away, leaving behind the two suspects and his wife.

The two suspects took advantage of the husband's absence by allegedly raping the wife.

The husband came back with a barangay kagawad and this prompted the suspects to flee.

The team of the Bayawan police led by Insp. Romulo Malilin Talay Jr., elements of the 61st Infantry Battalion and barangay officials immediately conducted a hot pursuit operation that led to the apprehension of Lorenzo.

The other suspect, however, eluded the police dragnet.

Robbery with rape charges were filed against the suspects.

Meanwhile, in Guihulngan, another couple was waylaid and robbed of P50,000 in cash and one of them was killed by unidentified suspects Sunday, in Sitio Mandi-e, Barangay Magsaysay, Guihulngan, Oriental Negros.

The couple, Aninias and Erlinda Tachado, 47, are in the buy-and-sell business of hogs. They were on their way home from a flea market in Barangay Buenavista Sunday, when they were waylaid.

The husband died of three gunshot wounds, while the wife was shot in the back, while trying to run for her life. She is presently recuperating at the Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital.*
