Jailed Negrense
on her way home

The mother of jailed Negrense domestic helper Nancy Tantiado may now stop worrying about her daughter.

Rep. Ignacio Arroyo (5th district, Neg. Occ.) yesterday said Tantiado who was released from the Baabda Women's Prison in Beirut, Lebanon, Jan. 3, is now on her way home on board a Gulf Air passenger plane. Arroyo who facilitated her immediate return to the Philippines, added that Tantiado is expected to arrive at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, at about 12:40 p.m. today.

Tantiado has been staying at the Overseas Workers Welfare Office in Beirut since she was released from prison early this month.

Tantiado was detained in Beirut September last year, on what she called trumped up charges filed by her employer. She was accused by her employer of stealing jewelry, which she denied.

It was the mother of Tantiado, Jocelyn, who had sought the help of Arroyo in fast-tracking her return to the Philippine as soon as possible.

Nancy had decided to return to the Philippine because she said she had been maltreated by her Lebanese employer.

While she was about to board a plane bound for Manila on September 20 last year, she was arrested by airport authorities in Beirut for having jewelry owned by her employer in her bag.*GPB
