2 male bodies found

Two male bodies were found in different areas in Bacolod City Saturday, police reports said.

The body of Dioscoro Garcia Toledo, 84, married, of Namongsod, Candoni, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental was found on the seashore at Purok Malipayon, Brgy. 35, Bacolod City at about 7 a.m. Saturday.

Toledo who is temporarily staying with his son-in-law Roy Sumgaysay, 55, of Brgy. 35, was believed to have drowned while he was answering the call of nature, police reports said.

At about 10 a.m. of the same day, the body of Roque Hiponia, 82, of Bohol, Tagbilaran, and a mendicant in Bacolod City was found in his shanty at the Balay Pag-asa compound beside the Bacolod Bays Center at San Juan Street, in the city, case investigator PO3 Celito Dullan told the DAILY STAR yesterday.

Hiponia, who was in the custody of the Department of Social Services and Development for about two weeks was declared dead by Fire Insp. Arnold Alba of the Bureau of Fire Protection.

No foul play surrounded the death of both Todelo and Hiponia because no injuries were noted in their bodies, investigators said. Toledo's remains now lie in state at the Rolling Hills Memorial Park, while Hiponia's body lies at the Alisbo Funeral Homes, police reports said.*DMG

8 wounded in
shooting, stabbing

Eight persons were wounded and rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in separate stabbing and shooting incidents in Bacolod City and its nearby towns and cities over the weekend.

Rushed to the CLMMRH were Percival Presco, 31, of Brgy. Ma-ao, Bago City and his friend Melvin Polidario, 22, of Purok Candelaria, Brgy. Sum-ag, Bacolod City with gunshot wounds allegedly inflicted by a still unidentified person at Purok San Sebastian, Brgy. Sum-ag at about 1:48 a.m. yesterday, a police report said.

Presco was wounded in his back while Polidario sustained a minor wound in his left wrist, a police report said. Initial reports said Presco and Polidario were on their way home from a dancehall when a "sumpak", locally known as an improvised firearm burst and hit them. The motive of the shooting is still being investigated by Precinct 10 policemen, police reports said.

Jofrito Espinosa, 34, married, of Hacienda Miramar, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental was also brought to the CLMMRH with a gunshot wound in his stomach allegedly inflicted by a still unidentified person at Hacienda Buenasuerte, Cadiz City, at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday, hospital reports said.

Meanwhile, Arrel Erta, 20, of Palayog; Roniel Demigello, 22, of Macho, Candumarao, both in Hinigaran town and Mamerto Andico, 25, of Caliling Cauayan town were brought to the CLMMRH with stab wounds in their bodies due to separate incidents.

Erta sustained a stab wound in the back and Demigello sustained injuries in his left portion of his body reportedly inflicted by unidentified persons, while Andico was wounded in his stomach allegedly hit by his brother Marlon, hospital reports said.

At about 9 a.m. Saturday, Rodrigo Salvador, 37, married, of Brgy. Bantayan, Kabankalan City was stabbed by a certain "Villegas" in the same barangay, hospital reports also said.

Salvador sustained a stab wound in his back, while his assailant escaped and is still at-large.

Jimmy Dapulang, 18, single, of Purok Calachuchi, Brgy. 9, Bacolod City, was also rushed to the CLMMRH with a stab wound in his chest allegedly inflicted by his younger brother Jeoffrey in their residence at about 4:30 p.m. Friday, police reports said.

The motive of the stabbing is still being investigated by Precinct 1 policemen.*DMG

11 persons arrested
for illegal gambling

Eleven persons were nabbed for violating Presidential Decree 1602, as amended by Republic Act 9287, or illegal gambling in different areas in Bacolod City Friday and Saturday.

Precinct 1 policemen led by newly installed station commander Chief Insp. Jimmy Fortaleza arrested nine persons in the act of playing "cara y cruz," or "tombo" in a plain view at Purok Tapulanga, Brgy. 34, Bacolod City at about 3:10 Friday. Arrested were Rey Gamboa Turbina, 31; Roberto Eufemio Batinasela, 34; Rene Yeung Pornes, 30; Andres Quizon Tungoy, 37; Francis Carbaquin Olero, 20; Danilo Alisbo Juson, 37; and a 17-year-old boy, all of Purok Tapulanga, Brgy. 34, a police report said.

Recovered from them were six 25-centavo coins used as cue money, a tablecloth and P262 in different denominations in bet money, a police report also said.

Meanwhile, Police Precinct 8 led by Insp. Danilo Francisco also arrested Larry Sayson, 31 and Roy Alcobar, 48, both of Brgy. Tangub for alleged possession of a bundle of jai-alai tipsters and results, tally sheets, calculator, ballpens, a BMX bike and P40 in bet money at Purok Matahum, Brgy. Tangub at about 5 a.m. Saturday. Sayson and Alcobar are now detained in the lock-up cell of Police Precinct 8 for illegal gambling, a police report said.*DMG
