Soroptimist-Silay
marks 1st anniversary

The Soroptimist International of Silay will mark its first anniversary today as a Chartered Club of the Soroptimist International of the Americas, a press release from the group said yesterday.

Activities will include a 6 a.m. Mass to be attended by club members led by Maida Jison to be held at the Marian Missionaries Seminary at St. Francis Subdivision in Silay.

At 5 p.m., the club will hold a raffle of gifts to Soroptimists fund-raising solicitors, and fellowship at the residence of club treasurer Liwayway Javelona at Fortuna Subdivision.

Club president-elect Marie June Pavillar-Castro said in the press release that, since their charter ceremony one year ago, SI-Silay has facilitated medical missions, feeding programs, and launched environment and education-related projects for the benefit of women and girls, among others.

Meanwhile, a posthumous Making a Difference for Women Award was given to the late Monserrat Gamboa-Araneta, one of the founders of the Kabuhi Group of Charity for Silay which provides medical assistance to indigents through the annual Daigon music fund raising event. The recipient of the Women's Opportunity Award was Lea Simple of Brgy. Rizal, Silay, who will receive $250 from the SI of Holiday Isles. Simple will compete with other WOA winners from other clubs in the Western Visayas District, the press release added.*
