TBA, BBC post 1st wins

Tangub Basketball Association leaned on Mark Bolivar's steady free throw shooting in the dying minutes to hack out a 75-74 triumph over Summit-AMG Pawnshop Wednesday night for its first win in the 6th Tan Kek Pin Memorial Cup in Bacolod City.

Bolivar made all of his 7 points in the final period, including four free throws that placed TBA on top, 75-74, in the final minute, after Jessimar Gabihan gave Summit a 72-71 lead with 2:27 left.

TBA actually stormed to a 48-28 lead in the first half thanks to Elmer Santander's 15 points in the opening quarter but Salvador Bonza and Gabihan carried Summit back into the game in the second half.

A 14-3 closing quarter run led by Bonza trimmed the lead, 61-52, before Gabihan scored 8 points in a 14-4 spurt that gave Summit the lead, 66-65, with more than 5 minutes left.

Meanwhile, BBC came up with a stirring debut, crushing Davies-Republic Hardware, 86-66.

Robert Buñol and Rico Cabatu sparked the win, scoring 17 and 16 points, respectively, while Allan Jaena contributed 13, including 8 in the first half.

Cabatu waxed hot in the third quarter, hitting four triples to put BBC comfortably ahead, 68-46, at the end of the third period.

Bobby Yap led Davies with 14 points and teammate Carlo de la Torre chipped in 10.

Santander, the 2004 TKP Cup MVP, finished with 17, while Gumayan and Alex Sequiño added 10 apiece. Gabihan and Bonza had 21 points each but lacked support with only Richard Co scoring in double figures with 11.

Meanwhile, YBAC debuts against Panasonic-Po's in the first game at 6:30 today, before New ST Marketing tackles Krua Thai Ice Monsters in the main game.*CPT
