IN REG'L MEN'S OPEN TOURNEY

The Negros Occidental Football Association starts its drive for a slot in the national finals today when it tackles Oriental Negros FA at 3 p.m. at the start of the Visayas qualifying tournament of the Philippine Football Federation National Men's Senior Championship at the Silliman University pitch in Dumaguete City.

Strikers Fredrick Jan Serios and Floriano Pasilan will spearhead the attack of Negros, while the midfield crew will be composed of Rolando Treyes, Yano Takahiro, former Philippine team standout Bernard Rojas and Arnie Pasinabo, who played for the RP XI in the 23rd Southeast Asian Games in Bacolod.

NOFA's defensive line will be anchored on former RP XI booter Ziggy Tonog, who will play alongside wJoel Ballo-allo, Simon Hulleza and Dexter Versario, who was a member of the Philippine training Under-23 pool.

Archie Bayquin, the Most Valuable Player in the NOFA Provincial Championships, will start as goalkeeper.

"I hope that all of my starting 11 will deliver to boost our chances of winning," NOFA mentor Freddie Lazarito, who is also the mentor of USLS, said.

The substitutes for NOFA, which is set to take on Cebu FA on Sunday at 3 p.m., will be goalkeeper Henderson Campo, defenders Michael Benedicto and William Valencia, and midfielders Jayson Panahy, Miguel Gonzales, Steven Ferraris and John Ignalaga.

NOFA placed second last year after bowing to the Philippine Navy in a penalty shootout in Cagayan de Oro City.*CIT
