Evolution Riders Club
elects new officers

The new officers of the Bacolod Evolution Riders Club were elected Sunday at Kassel Grill, Doņa Juliana Subdivision, in Bacolod City, with Councilor Al Victor Espino as the inducting officer, a press release from the group said yesterday.

Gassy Rosales was elected president, Arjay Sobrepeņa - vice president, Alvin Fajardo - secretary, Benny Escanillan - treasurer, Jun-jun Gajo - auditor, Serafin Seņorin - public information officer, and members of the Board of Trustees Rentgent Villacruel, Ray Jover, Larry Yulo, Wilmer Devierte, Sylvester Descutido, Ryan Yanson and Steve Hechanova.

The activities of the group this year include a follow-up to last year's racing competition, community works and support events for the Bacolod government, the press release added.*

BC-GAD to hold election
at 1st assembly tomorrow

The Bacolod City Gender and Development Council will hold its first annual general assembly for 2006 at the new Jollibee store along Lacson Street, Bacolod City, 2 p.m. tomorrow, Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, chairperson of the BC-GAD Council, said in a press release yesterday.

The assembly is composed of all 60 barangays represented by their respective kagawads, who are chairpersons of the committees on women and family as well as non-government organizations involved in women's issues and concerns.

There will be an election of new committee chairs and members, a review and evaluation of the 2005 BC-GAD activities, and an update on various activities lined up for this year such as the V-Day 2006 or the restaging of the Vagina Monologues for the benefit of the Bacolod Women Center for abused children and women and children clients.

The GAD Plan for 2006, the proposed GAD Code Ordinance of Bacolod City, priority projects for barangay-based GAD funds, Tianggue 6100 women livelihood projects, and updates on the implementation of Republic Act No. 9262 or the Anti-Violence against Women and their Children Act of 2004 will also be tackled.

Drum and bugle
corps tilt set Feb. 4

A drum and bugle corps competition or the "Marching Bands in Rhythm" competition will be held on Feb. 4 as one of the highlights of the first Chinese New Year celebration in Bacolod City.

Bacolod City Tourism Officer Imogene Kanaan yesterday said the competition, which will be participated in by the different elementary and high schools in the city, is sponsored by the City Tourism Office in cooperation with the Committee on Tourism chaired by Councilor Homer Bais. She said prizes at stake are P25,000 for the first prize, P20,000 - second, P15,000 - third and P2,000 each for non-winning groups.

Kanaan said other special awards include best in parade, best majorette, and best in banner head. She said the parade will start at the Capitol Lagoon to the Bacolod Public Plaza.

"The city hopes to institutionalize the Marching Bands in Rhythm activity and make it a yearly event like the MassKara Festival," Kanaan said.*CGS
