'Rebels plan to
attack 3 police units'

The intelligence community uncovered plans yesterday by rebel forces to stage attacks on three police stations in the towns of Siaton, Zamboanguita and Dauin in southern Oriental Negros.

This developed as Philippine National Police provincial director, Senior Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe, warned all units to take all the necessary precautions and strengthen their camp defense plans to deny the enemy the opportunity to launch hostile attacks on police establishments.

He said the rebels may pretend to be members of the police or military units in uniform or even use commandeered government vehicles and employ deception or diversionary tactics in achieving their objective.

Buenafe also called on every police station to maintain constant radio contact with the provincial command.

Meanwhile, suspected rebels armed with two baby armalite rifles and .45 caliber pistols were sighted in Barangay Bugay, Bayawan City.

The group of five led by a certain "Zaldo" stayed for two hours in the barangay, as confirmed by barangay officials, before proceeding to Barangay San Jose on board a black Suzuki "habal-habal".

Two days before the rebel sighting in Bugay, a farmhouse owned by Nelson Dolar was strafed and burned by another group led by a certain Archie.*JG
