A sugarcane worker, his wife and their two children are still
confined at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital
for burns sustained when a kerosene lamp accidentally fell in their
house and started a fire at Crossing Mambao, Brgy. Bantayan, Kabankalan
City in Negros Occidental, Tuesday morning.
Alejandro Tamolin Sr., 35, was in a serious condition for
major burns in his stomach, face, legs and arms, while his wife
Wilma, 34, sustained minor burns in her toes, Alejandro's father
Abraham Tamolin told the DAILY STAR yesterday. Alejandro's children
Alejandro Jr., 4, and three-month old John Rey also sustained burns
in their legs, the older Tamolin added.
Mila Pancito, aunt of Alejandro Sr., said Wilma asked her eldest
son Willen, 13, to cook their breakfast because she was tired after
pacifying her youngest son who had been crying.
Willen placed the kerosene lamp near a plastic container containing
kerosene and it fell, Pancito said.
Wilma saw the fire starting to spread in the kitchen and she
tried to throw the plastic container that was on fire out of the
window, but it instead hit her husband who was sleeping with Alejandro
Jr. and John Rey.
Alejandro Sr., told the DAILY STAR, he woke their other children
Elsie, 12, Relsie, 11, Analyn, 10, April Boy, 9 up to get them out
of the house, and rescued John Rey and Alejandro Jr.
"I do not care if the fire burned our clothes, house and property
as long as I was able to save my wife and all my children," Alejandro
said.*DMG
