Sexagenarian nabbed
for peddling 'shabu'

A 61-year-old man was caught by police operatives for selling shabu in a buy-bust operation in Barangay Looc, Dumaguete City, Oriental Negros.

The suspect, Jaime Ybañez, jobless and single, was nabbed by members of Task Force 24 led by SPO1 Boy Sanchez of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and C/Insp. Manuel Hidalgo of the city police following a buy-bust operation.

A search of his pockets yielded three more sachets of suspected shabu, P2,000 in cash believed to be proceeds of the nefarious activity, and three P100 bills in marked money, the police said.

Ybañez is a probationer under the old drugs law, Republic Act 6425. He promised not to engage in selling drugs anymore, if the police would allow him to get out of his detention cell, the searching team said.

Ybañez was charged with violation of Section 5 for selling shabu with no bail recommended, and Section 11 for possession, under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 of RA 9165.

Meanwhile in less than one month, the Dumaguete police in cooperation with its traffic management office has impounded a total of 118 motorcycles for various violations. The confiscation was done through Operation ˜Bakal" and Operation "Night Eyes" which were simultaneously launched on Jan. 5 to rid the streets of "colorum" vehicles and motorcycles.

They are also tasked to check on the proliferation of loose firearms, illegal drugs and snatching with the use of rented motorcycles, aside from raising revenues for the city coffers, Hidalgo said.

The owners of the more than 50 impounded motorcycles with different traffic law violations were issued receipts by the city Tuesday.*JG
