Police arrest plant vendors

Twenty-nine pots of euphorbia plants with flowers allegedly glued on to them were confiscated by Precinct 1 policemen at the corner of Gonzaga-Gatuslao streets in Bacolod City yesterday.

Nonie Losaya Trinio, 57, and Ana Lisa Siyas Moranting, 25, of Purok Riverside, Brgy. Bata, told the police they bought seven pots of euphorbia plants for P100 each from Roger Limor, 20, at Gonzaga-Gatusalo streets Friday, police reports said.

Trinio said she was shocked to discover the flowers on the plants withered the day after she bought them, and only on close scrutiny did she discover that the flowers had been glued on the leaves and some portions of the plants. The flowers were also just painted to colors that look like those on euphorbia plants, she said.

Meanwhile, Limor denied Trinio's allegation saying he could not recall selling euphorbia plants to her. He said his plants were authentic and they were raised in his garden. Senior Insp. Edel Jose Manzano, Police Precinct 1 commander, said plant vendors Rolly Montilla Saimoren, 34, Jenny Fe Tenero Guillina, 23, of Purok Mangga, Brgy. Pta. Taytay, and Roger Limor, 20, of Bago City were arrested yesterday for violation of City Ordinance No. 160 series of 96 section 34, or illegal peddling and for estafa.

They were detained in the lock-up cell of Police Precinct 1, Manzano said.

Meanwhile, Security guard Mariano Buga-ay, married, of A/R Security Agency endorsed to Police Precinct 1 a television set, stand fan and a karaoke cassette player reportedly abandoned by three unidentified persons who ransacked the barangay hall of Brgy. 24 in Bacolod City at about 3:30 a.m. yesterday.

Buga-ay, who was detailed in the motorpool near the barangay hall told the police he was driving a tricycle when the suspects flagged him down in front of Macho Bar at Rizal-Lacson streets in the city. He said the three ordered him to go to the barangay hall and threatened to kill him with their bladed weapons. He then saw one of the suspects carrying the equipment to his tricycle.

One of the robbers saw his service firearm which prompted the robber and his companions to escape, Buga-ay told the police.*DMG
