Cauayan
holds fiesta today
The town of Cauayan, Negros Occidental, marks today
its fiesta with the holding of the annual Lubay-lubay Festival and
a celebrities night to cap the week-long celebration.
Mayor Jerry Tabujara said the Lubay-lubay competition
will start at 1 p.m. while the celebrities night program, featuring
television personalities from Manila, will start at 7 p.m.
Nine barangay-cluster tribes, led by Poblacion,
represented by students of the Negros State College of Agriculture,
last year's champion, will compete in the Lubay-lubay competition.
Lubay-lubay, the mayor said, is a tribute to the resilience of Cauayan
residents, reflective in the swaying of the bamboo, from which the
name of the town is derived.
Among the celebrities to entertain townsfolk
and their guests are comedians Arnel Ignacio and Tia Pusit as well
as Catalina Perez and Kudeth Honasan.
Former Rep. Genaro Alvarez (Neg.Occ., 6th district)
and Mayor Tabujara crowned last night fiesta queen Diaryl Magbanua.
The fiesta activities also included a food court,
cooperative day, agro-industrial fair, the DYEZ drama talents' show,
a basketball tournament, grand parade, horse show, a bamboo-sound
competition and a benefit dance.
Also held were an off-road biking competition participated
in by more than 100 racers and an inter-barangay bikathon.*
