NBA execs set meeting

The officials and members of the Negros Basketball Association will meet tomorrow or Wednesday to finalize the staging of the NBA-Mayor's Cup Basketball Tournament at the Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.

The meeting will take up the aspects needed to stage the tournament like the officiating of the cagefest among others, NBA president Oscar "Dodong" Bascon said.

He said the tournament will kick off on the third week of February after its opening, which is scheduled this month, has been postponed because the NBA has yet to finalize the tilt with Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

The NBA also re-scheduled the tournament because Negros Occidental, one of the squads aiming for the championship, will banner the Western Visayas men's basketball team in the National Private Schools and Athletics Association Games in Pangasinan, from Feb. 6 to 11.

The Elvis Atinado-mentored Negros squad consist of a selection of cagers from the seven-time defending NOPSSCEA champion West Negros College and last year's runner-up University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos.

Aside from Negros, teams vying for the crown include reigning titlist Toyota Warriors of Iloilo, Your Basketball Athletic Club-Emarken and Tribu Sugbu of Cebu.

The tournament will adopt a single round-robin format with the top two teams advancing into the championship showdown. *CIT
