Dauin tourism big earner

Tourism is fast becoming a booming industry in the coastal town of Dauin as its government reported a big jump to more than P2 million in earning from tourist ticket sales last year.

The fee ticketing system installed within the nine marine protected areas in Dauin generated a total of more than P2.3 million on the third quarter of 2005. The system generates its sales from diving and ecotourism activities within the eight barangays of Dauin, including the renowned Apo Island, the major tourist attraction of the province and a premier diving spot in the country.

The other barangays are Bulak, Lipayo, District 1, District II, Masaplod Norte, Masaplod Sur, and Maayongtubig.

Sibulan boy knocks out Mexican foe in
Pacquiao-Morales undercard due

A native of Sibulan town, Oriental Negros who is a three-time Philippine boxing champion knocked out his Mexican foe in the undercard of the Pacquiao-Morales fight dubbed "The Battle" at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas Saturday night (yesterday morning in the Philippines), reports from Philboxing.com said yesterday.

Southpaw super-featherweight champion Jimrex Jaca alias "Jimuel Divino," 22, who was born in Sibulan but has resided in Cebu City beat Mexican boxer Geronimo Hernandez to end the fight at 2:46 minutes of the first round.

Jaca, who is the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation SuperFeatherweight champion from January 30, 2004 to May 30, 2004, decked the Mexican twice in the first round, forcing the referee to stop the eight-round fight, Philboxing.com said.

Buildings in NegOr
fire-safe, BFP says

Majority of the almost 14,000 buildings that have been inspected by the Bureau of Fire Protection in Oriental Negros were found to be complying with the fire-safety regulations.

SFO1 Gerardo Gonzales, BFP chief, said the buildings were equipped with fire-safety requirements that include fire-exits, fire extinguishers, and emergency lights.

The inspection covered mercantile and residential edifices such as dormitories, boarding houses, and hotels; business occupancy like clinics, government buildings, schools, and hospitals; and public assembly that include restaurants, bars, beerhouses and department stores. Interior and Local Government Secretary Angelo Reyes had earlier ordered the inspection of public buildings, dormitories, and boarding houses in the wake of a fire that left eight students dead in Manila in December.
